Project – Basement Extraction of an Elekta Gamma Knife via Elevator Shaft

NANAVATI MAX HOSPITAL

Equipment Type

Elekta Gamma Knife (Stereotactic Radiosurgery System)

Key Challenge:

Decommissioning a multi-ton radiosurgery system from a basement with no direct access for cranes or heavy machinery, requiring an innovative and non-destructive extraction solution.

Our Solution:

This project is a testament to our creative problem-solving. Tasked with purchasing a Gamma Knife from a basement with no viable exit, our engineers devised a meticulous plan. We temporarily decommissioned and dismantled one of the hospital's elevators to gain access to the empty shaft. After dismantling the Gamma Knife in the confined basement space, each massive, shielded component was expertly rigged and lifted vertically up the elevator shaft using an external crane, a feat of precision and careful planning.

Value Delivered:
  • Engineered a brilliant solution to a seemingly impossible logistical challenge.

  • Avoided the need for any costly, disruptive, and time-consuming structural demolition.

  • Purchased the high-value asset, providing a comprehensive service from acquisition to extraction.

  • Reassembled the elevator post-removal, leaving the site in its original operational condition.
