Project – Decommissioning of a Legacy Cobalt-60 Teletherapy Unit
MANAVTA CANCER HOSPITAL
Equipment Type
Cobalt-60 Teletherapy Unit & companion X-Ray Simulator
Key Challenge:
The safe dismantling of an older radiotherapy machine containing massive, heavy shielding components requiring extreme care and heavy-duty cutting.
Our Solution:
This project involved the purchase and removal of a legacy Cobalt-60 unit, a machine built with tons of dense metal for radiation shielding. Our team employed heavy-duty cutting tools to systematically break down the massive C-frame and the solid metal beam-stopper. The project also included the decommissioning of the associated patient couch and the separate X-ray tube from its companion simulator machine, providing the hospital with a complete clear-out service.
Value Delivered:
-
Specialized expertise in decommissioning older, heavy-shielded radiotherapy equipment.
-
Provided a comprehensive solution by clearing both the treatment and planning machines.
-
Managed an extremely heavy-duty operation, ensuring the structural safety of the site.
-
Recovered a significant volume of high-quality scrap metal, providing maximum value to the client.
