Project – Decommissioning of a Multi-Ton Proton Therapy Gantry
FORTIS HOSPITAL
Equipment Type
Proton Therapy System Gantry
Key Challenge:
The monumental task of dismantling and removing a 100+ ton, multi-story precision radiotherapy machine, requiring structural demolition and heavy crane operations.
Our Solution:
This project stands as a landmark achievement in heavy medical equipment decommissioning. We managed the end-to-end removal of a massive proton therapy gantry. The operation required the partial demolition of an exterior wall to create an exit path. Our expert riggers and crane operators then systematically lifted each colossal component—from the multi-ton rotating carriage to the main beamline arm—out of the building and loaded them for transport.
Value Delivered:
-
Successfully executed one of the most logistically complex medical decommissioning projects in the country.
-
Managed all aspects of the project, including structural demolition and heavy-lift crane coordination.
-
Ensured the highest levels of safety and precision throughout a high-risk operation.
-
Provided a complete, turnkey solution for an asset of immense scale and complexity.
